• Are the products protected against vandalism?

Yes. Caroma Smart Command fixtures incorporate several concealed fixing features, as-well-as specialised tools to access for maintenance as required. Much of the technology hardware is mounted behind the wall or in the ceiling, further protecting the eco-system from physical harm.

  • How do the bathroom fixtures connect to the BMS?

Devices connect wirelessly using Bluetooth via a Gateway, which is installed in each bathroom in the ceiling void. The Gateway is then wired using Ethernet data cable to the building’s network infrastructure. Also connected to the building’s network is the Concentrator (computer), which functions as a data forwarder, sending information through to the Caroma Smart Command Cloud or translating into BACnet language for internal BMS.

  • How many Green Building credits can Caroma Smart Command contribute towards?

Every building and plumbing set up is unique, so talking definitively about exactly how much Caroma Smart Command can influence a given buildings Green Star rating is subjective. Caroma Smart Command has the potential to satisfy up to 8 credits across 3 Green Star categories (Management, Water & Innovation). So yes it can, but it’s important to remember that Caroma Smart Command is a piece of a very large puzzle when it comes to Green Star ratings for an entire building.

  • What Shower options are available?

The Intelligent Shower interface is available in 3 configurations. Available in a single port which allows the operation of a singular shower fixture, a dual port which can divert between an overhead and hand shower, or a three port Eco variant.

    Helpful:   YES    NO

  • What is the eco variant and how can it help save water?

This feature gives the user the ability to recapture water whilst the thermostatic mixer is reaching the desired temperature. This recapture feature ensures every drop of water is saved. This is only available in the 3 port shower interface.

    Helpful:   YES    NO

  • What can I do with the water that is re-captured from the Intelligent Shower Eco feature?

This will be building specific; however, you can re-purpose this water however you see fit. Redirect to garden irrigation or supplement your rainwater catchment tanks. Suggested that a hydraulic consultant is engaged early in the project.

  • Outside of the Eco Mode available in the 3 Port Intelligent Shower, how else can the 1 & 2 port variants also save water?

In addition to being able to monitor shower duration and water use, the facility manager also can set timed shut off parameters for showers & then a further additional lock out before the shower can be turned on again, driving behavioural change in users. For example, the facility manager may notice the average shower time is 10 minutes – they can choose to configure the showers to turn off after 7 minutes.

  • Can Caroma Smart Command be installed into an existing build or should a design be built around the system?

Caroma Smart Command can be retrofitted into existing buildings if the correct provisions are accounted for such as access to power (GPO’s) and cabling infrastructure.

    Helpful:   YES    NO

  • Is there a factory reset for Caroma Smart Command fixtures?

There is a Factory Reset function for all devices that restores the fixture to its default configuration. The factory reset does NOT restore the original password (for security reasons). Passwords must be kept secure, but if a password is lost or compromised, there are methods to reset the password.

  • Can the Caroma Smart Command Eco Valve be used as a metering device?

The Eco Valve is primarily a Leak Detection and Isolation valve. Whilst it does measure the flow of water through the system, it primarily uses water flow data (and other sensor information) to determine if a leak has occurred and then isolate the water to prevent further damage.

    Helpful:   YES    NO

  • How many Eco Valves are recommended per building?

We recommend that an Eco Valve be located to provide the best protection coverage for the site. Considerations should include the number of fixtures being monitored and the impacts of isolating that section of the network in the event of a leak. Specific quantities are project specific & our dedicated team can assist in providing guidance.

  • Can I flush fixtures remotely?

You can set & configure the automated purge function to be applied to the fixtures remotely from the Cloud, as well as from the mobile app. The app contains a "Device Profile" function that can configure multiple devices simultaneously, so purge start times would be closely timed. Note: Flushing entire floors worth of fixtures may put extreme stress on the wastewater plumbing system, but a staggered approach could be configured. You cannot initiate an activation remotely from the Cloud. This is an intentional system design choice to avoid the flushing of fixtures when in use by a patron. The context of the bathroom and if any fixtures are in use is important before performing purges.

  • How many fixtures can the Gateway support?

The Caroma Smart Command Gateway is able to support up to 30 devices within Bluetooth range. If out of range or above 30, additional Gateways will be required. This can be determined by a site audit or via building architectural drawings.

  • How do I access the Caroma Smart Command Cloud?

Once the Caroma Smart Command Eco-system has been fully commissioned & all fixtures are brought on-line, users of the cloud will be provided with credentials & can log in via the ‘Login’ option in the top right of main website menu.

  • How is water consumption calculated?

All Caroma products are tested and certified to be highly efficient. These flow rates or flush volumes can be coupled with the number of fixture activations and duration to enable an accurate calculation of water consumed. For example; taps are calculated as factor of actuations multiplied by flow duration multiplied by flowrate.

    Helpful:   YES    NO

  • If the flush volume is amended, does it re-calculate?

If the tap & urinal flush volume settings are adjusted within the app, the water flow of the products will adjust and reflect the new values back into the system. The Caroma Invisi toilet cistern must be manually adjusted to the new water volume, using the Invisi internal floats as per product documentation to the new water volume. The flush volume can then be updated in the app, allowing the water consumption calculations to re-calculate.

  • How is the fixture data managed?

Via an existing building management system (BMS) or cloud-based system. When on local system – rolling 30 days. When on BMS – Historical data.

    Helpful:   YES    NO

  • Can the fixtures be managed individually, in clusters/groups and all at once within a facility/building?

Yes, you can micromanage or cluster manage fixtures. The Caroma Smart Command Cloud has been designed specifically to do this. An existing BMS must have this functionality inbuilt to manage groups and clusters of devices.

  • What is Hygiene Flush?

A periodic, automated activation (configurable in app or Cloud) for all products to ensure stagnant (dead leg) water is eliminated in low/unused fixtures. This helps to reduce risk’s which can arise from stagnant water in plumbing systems, whilst assisting in odour management.
